Dear Mr. Caine,

May

A member of my staff called upon you recently in

connection with Colonial (Hong Kong) Police Pension Re-

gulations for Non-Europeans and I understand that you confirmed that those Regulations do not provide for

the payment of any benefits to the dependants or

legal personal representatives of a deceased policeman, whether he dies whilst serving or after discharge (cf.

Section 2 of the Superannuation Act,1909).

Our own Regulations for the Police serving in the

Naval Establishments at Hong Kong were based on yours

and are similar in this respect.

We have under consideration an application for financial assistance to the dependants of an Indian

Police Sergeant, pensioned in July last on attaining

the age limit, who died five months later, having

drawn but a very small amount of pension.
